Rainbows, concerts, and a new puppy
Idaho is warm this week, the temperatures soared into the 90s. That also means thunderstorms! Monday we had a doozy of a storm with rain, wind, hail, and a triple rainbow to top it off! The rainbow was so vivid there was a reflected rainbow in reverse order mirrored underneath and a lighter bow above. It was very cool. We danced in the rain rejoicing over the gorgeous sight.
Wednesday was a busy day. Justin is getting new motorcycle tires so needed a ride back home, Dog Vader had a vet appointment at 10:30, I was 5 minutes late so had to wait 20 minutes for the next slot. The vet said Vader has a cancerous growth in his jaw, and infected tooth, and a heart murmur. Other than that he is quite healthy for a 16 year old dog. The vet gave us information about end of life treatment for Vader. The intake nurse asked if I wanted to put him down that day, that was a no! The vet’s opinion was much less pressing, so we will wait since he does not seem to be in pain. The 3rd graders enjoyed a lunch on the lawn, I was incredibly late for that due to the slowest JJ’s drive thru ever, took 30 minutes! Justin met me at the school for a very fast 10 minute lunch with Evelyn and Josie. I accidentally left the bag of sandwiches somewhere in the school when I stopped to chat to the principal. Evelyn was very upset about losing her beloved leftover sandwich. I am considering getting the Computer Lab Para job next year at Ronald Reagan. The principal gave me more information about the job. Essentially, the job would entail teaching the computer class as a specials class.
All the 10th graders presented projects they worked hard on for a month or so as part of the Spring Expo. Justin and I went to see her project and hear her present. We were also invited to the awards ceremony right after the last session. Amelia was presented the top student award in Science! Way to go!
Phillip and Everett had their last drumline/band concert of the year on Thursday. The musicians performed their festival songs because the event was canceled last moment. The drumline has progressed leaps and bounds over the past year. It’s fun to watch them gain skills like keeping time and mastering different percussion instruments. Beginning band went from playing We Will Rock You to a nice arrangement of harder songs. Everett started complaining about his instrument weight, he does not like carrying it home. Hard not to remind him of the fact that we urged him to think about transporting a trombone to and from school. Builds character, right? I quite enjoyed watching him saw away at the music. Mia was gone for graduation parties for the entire evening. Josie was sad Mia was gone until bedtime. That is hard to get used to!
Justin left early Saturday morning for an off-road Motorcycle class. My 15 piano students had our piano recital at 10:30 in Caldwell. We arrived early to set up chairs and get everything laid out. The kids did their best! It is nerve-wracking to play on a new piano in a new setting. It’s a good thing to perform, deal with all those new emotions and stress. All the students got a mustache in their treat bags. We took a silly group photo wearing the mustaches! I took the kids for a McDs lunch as a reward for their year of piano dedication. It tasted on the gross side, not as appealing without a large cup of Diet Coke. I got several funny looks, my phone did not recognize my face…I forgot to remove my handsome black mustache. At home I helped Mia mom-clean her room. Then we all banded together to clean up the loft area. We planned to go get the new puppy once Justin got home. Justin got home and asked where the puppy was. We did not communicate about logistics just supposed the other was in charge of the plan. So…Justin took a nap. He was dehydrated and exhausted after a day of training. The little girls and I went to Walmart to return a baby gate that was too small. I ended up finding a wider one for less money on FB. I picked up a few herb plants since the seeds I planted were not germinating. Yay. Back at home I planted the herbs and got the potato bags filled and seed potatoes planted. Mia spent an hour with Martha Lynes planning activities for Girl’s Camp. They produced a nice schedule with lots of options.
Sunday after church we had a short (long) camp meeting to hash out the schedule and get the last items planned. Justin and the kids drove up to Emmett to pick up Furgus, our new puppy. They came home hyped up and so very excited. Everyone was vying for puppy time before long. Furgus is sleeping in our bedroom for the time being, until school is out. He was expectedly restless that first night. I took him out to the yard 3-4 times to do his business. We have a newborn again, more like a young toddler right now that can walk, bark, and eat all the scraps of food, plastic, wrappers, shoes and socks off the floor.
