Suapaia Girls Visit, Corn Toppers

Jana came to visit us! Hooray! I was a bit traumatized last time when she wanted to clean my white(ish) cupboards instead of relaxing. I loved the incentive to get our house clean. We finally got the spring cleaning completed. The boys were absolutely amazing. I went grocery shopping Thursday morning, tasked the boys with deep cleaning the kitchen. They stuck with me for over 4 hours of cleaning AFTER I got back home.

Amelia left for a High Adventure with the Stake early Tuesday morning. A bus drove the youth to Coos Bay, OR where they camped for 4 nights. Some of the youth went ocean fishing each day, they ate what was caught for their meals. The group visited a lighthouse, explored tidal pools, and did all the camping things. She said it snowed the last night, so I imagine it was on the cooler side.

Some MCO ladies met for lunch to bid Heather Bird farewell. She is moving to Vilsek, Germany as her husband is starting a new job contracting as a criminal investigator. I love those ladies so much. We saw Abby Rowley several times at church sites, even at Winter Quarters. Girl’s trip to Germany? Yes, please.

Those of us at home welcomed Jana, Hannah, and Rachel Thursday evening. The girls went right into play mode! Evelyn and Hannah were a team and Josie and Rachel another team. They really wanted to sleep in the same room which worked out perfectly with Amelia gone. All the littles slept in her room. I hear Rachel was a tad scared so crawled up to sleep with Josie, Josie said Rachel made her really hot.

Friday was a busy day with a Doctor appointment to get a referral for my knee and then to a camp meeting at Casa Robles with Amanda, Sara, Callie, and I. Jana was gone in the afternoon fixing a crack in her windshield. The girls were going stir crazy by the time everyone was home from errands. After dinner I took the girl gang to a fun park with a splash pad and several play areas. It was a very spicy warm day, gratefully not so bad after dinner.

Josie was tired of playing by Saturday. Rachel was tired by Saturday too after another silly night bed hopping. The boys started their new job at K-Top Corn Toppers! They had to be awake at 5 am in order to be ready for the carpool at 5:30. The boys had lunches packed, fresh water in their hydration packs, gloves, and hats! I am carpooling with 2 other ladies with kids working for K-Top. Their first day was not long, the boys were done by 10:30. Justin picked up the boys and their friends. They reported the work is tedious and boring. I cheered, knowing most of work is like this, best to start young before they build false beliefs about hard work. I am so happy they are working out in the fields. They get hot, they get drenched, Everett almost lost a boot the mud was so thick, it’s sweaty, it’s buggy, and the type of work that builds character.

Josie was very sad Ellie was left at Uncle Duane’s castle. She wrote him a letter, I wrote down her words and she copied them. Josie mailed a letter with ten of her own dollars to help Duane find her friend. She prayed every night for two weeks that Duane or Rebecca would find Ellie. Guess what? In her letter Josie said she went down to the basement to watch the boys play a game…Ellie was down there just doing her thing. Duane mailed Ellie along with a lovely note. Josie was thrilled and grateful to finally have Ellie back home.

We went on an afternoon adventure to Jump Creek. It was another hooooooot day, the cold water was quite refreshing. The girl gang squealed each and every time someone noticed a crawdad appendage. Jana and I trekked down the stream with the girls. Phillip invited his friend, Ben to accompany us. The boys disappeared for quite a long time, they walked the stream past the parking lot point. I had to laugh when Phillip showed up with a huge stick, he started to lever up rocks just for the fun of it. Amelia arrived back home around 9:30 pm. I helped her gather all her camping gear and get back home.

Sunday was a nice, boring day. Rachel was forced to take a nap, so many tears! I took some birthday photos of Hannah for her upcoming 9th birthday. Amelia and Ambree played a rousing game of camping with the girls. She drove them to camp, played in the tent, roasted pretend marshmallows, et al! The tent needed to dry out so she made it fun for the little cousins. I made grilled shawarma for dinner. We played together, well mostly, Josie took a long break much to Rachel’s dismay. Jana and girls left early Monday morning. I hear Rachel cried for 2-3 days because she missed Aunt Jenni! I felt sorry for Jana and touched by Rachel’s tender heart. We love having family visit.
