Primary Program 2024

I went back to work. It was easy and hard all at the same time. It was fun because all the little kids swarmed to check out my “exoskeleton,” ask a million questions, and admire Rita. Navigating the classroom is a bit tricky, I cannot get close enough to help out. The fix was getting a pointer stick to use. I tried using crutches in the lunchroom that first day, nope, not doing that again. Too many wet and slippery things on the floor to worry about and too many kids not paying attention. Teaching Kinder and first was really hard because they are still not independently logging in, close but enough students need help that it gets really crazy. I am starting a unit on coding starting Monday so hopefully the change of pace will renew the younger kids attention. By the end of the day my knee was swollen and aching, there is no chance to put up my leg nor ice it. Survival Mode!

The little girls had a really fun Activity Days this week. They were told to come dressed in clothes they didn’t mind getting dirty and hungry. Their leaders served dinner on the table without utensils or table settings. The girls came home laughing about the silly dinner. I love it! So fun.

Amelia had a Farmstead employee party on Thursday evening. She and Hailey drove over together for moral support. I did not know about 800 employees work to make that business run! Amelia is at the bottom of the totem pole as far as hours worked, but she did score a cute letter board as a fun employee perk. The rest of the kids went with Sara to MCO. It happened to be the second attire check day and/or recheck. After updating all the spreadsheets (2 hours later) only 5 more singers passed off their attire. It’s quite frustrating to me that parents do not take this seriously. It prevents all those surprises that show up on concert day, some surprises so unexpected that the singer is not allowed on stage. I am grateful to Cara for being my assistant and boots on the ground.

Phillip went straight from MCO to Ben’s home until 11:30 pm. Ben celebrated his birthday with a sleepover, Phillip opted to come home for the sleep part. He got up “early” at 9 and went back over for the rest of the day. Around 4 I was commenting on the differences between boys and girls. If Amelia was gone all day she would text me a few times and give me updates. Phillip? Crickets. I finally got a text around 6 pm. The question? Mom….what is for dinner? Made me laugh! Beef Stroganoff. Is it done, I’m hungry? Funny boy. IF you’re curious, he did come home to eat and declared dinner divine.

I worked on addressing the PILE of towels in the laundry room. My sweet family tends to throw the dirty towels in front of the washing machine and remove the clean towels from their loads then dump them in front of the dryer. Folding towels and putting them away is too novel an idea. The piles mixed so it was back to the washer for it all. Amelia took me to the breast care center for another mammogram and sonogram on my right breast. The thoughts that filter through your mind waiting for results on a rescan are on the morbid side. One tends to ponder what life would look like after a cancer diagnosis. Thankfully, the scans are clear. Friday was also Sara’s birthday. I got her a fun watercoloring book and paints, now we can watercolor together in all our spare time. I went online grocery shopping for our weekly groceries. Amelia and I picked up the order right after dinner. Amelia drove Sara, Ambree, and I to Applebee’s to treat Sara to her favorite dessert: pecan blondies. The girls went to Ross across the parking lot, found some cute sweaters while the old ladies sat in at the restaurant. Happy Birthday Sara! We love you.

Saturday my goal was to help the girls clean their room. I spent 3 hours in the morning working on MCO attire emails. Then upstairs to help the girls tidy their room. They mostly put laundry away. I worked on sorting through summer clothes, putting those away, and getting out the winter clothes. Phew, we can finally walk into their room again. Amelia drove the girls to DI, I had a pile to donate. I was looking for two larger pots for my spider plants. Evelyn and Josie wanted jeans, I guess they are moving away from leggings. We had an awesome fashion show in the dressing room! So fun. Justin will be gone Monday-Thursday next week. I am concerned about Maisie peeing all over the house with no one to monitor her. Her new nickname is Miss Peabody. Josie made us all smile. She noticed small clouds dotting the sky and said, “There’s enough popcorn for a dragon to eat!” Yes! Indeed.

The Primary Program was this morning. The kids did a lovely job singing and delivering their parts. Evelyn was a narrator with Brian Flake. They even sang a duet of, “Army of Helaman.” Brian has an awesome singing voice. Josie spoke about her baptism. She related how she learned baptism is making 3 bear covenants, bear testimony, bear his name, and bear another’s burdens.
