Fabric Distribution and Carlita

The costume fabric team was successful this week! We handed out 85% of the fabric. I had to work early each day and stay late so I could leave work at 2:35 on Thursday. I wanted to be at the chapel by 3:30 in order to have time to get all 30 boxes inside the church and set up. Gratefully, the last 8 boxes arrived that morning.  Between Sara and I the plan was to shove as many boxes in my van as possible and then the kids would ride with Sara and a few boxes. Everett managed to tell me Wednesday night that he could not leave early from school because he had an assembly. While texting Sara she let me know Ambree could not leave early either. Then Amelia texted me early Thursday morning that she also could not miss any school. Thankfully, Cara was able to stop by and pack the boxes that would not fit in my van. Danielle Young also stopped by and picked up 4 boxes. Phew, just getting the boxes to the church was an ordeal. Cara got to the church just in time, she found the preschool teachers leaving from the basement doors. Our plan was to lug boxes through the main floor to the elevator and then drag them to the music room. Basement access was golden. Sara’s dolly was a huge time saver too. Cara, me, her daughters, and Jenn Spackman got all those heavy boxes to the music room. Cara organized the boxes in alphabetical order behind three large tables. I set up another table for the accessory pieces and one more table for trouble-shooting. Somehow we managed to hand out 600+ packets of fabric, patterns, and accessory fabric between 4-8 pm. It was a constant flow of people. The complaining from parents was rampant.

I heard most often: “you mean I have to sew our own costumes?” Yes! The entire 4 hours flew by in a flash for me. My children popped into the music room once in a while to let me know they were hungry, bored, and hungry or bored. Everett somehow scraped up his arms when he tripped on the asphalt, playing a night game with Logan outside. I didn’t know he was roaming until that incident. We could get kicked out for shenanigans if my kids are found without a chaperone. We had a conversation about staying either with me or in the van…again. I made some labels with Amelia’s contact into for those who wanted their costumes sewn for $20. It was a blur of an evening. In the end we had 4 boxes left out of 30 so that was awesome. We shoved the boxes in a closet the church lets us use. So happy we don’t need to lug boxes again. I was starving so treated myself and the girls to McDonalds for a very late dinner.

Other happenings this week. In computer lab students used the spheros to go bowling. Most students enjoyed that very much. Tuesday I was starting class for 3rd grade when Mr Obert came in asking if he could take some time. Sure! I finally WON a grant from CAP-Ed for $784 to get mats and cards for the bee-bots. I was very excited. Mr Obert watched my class while I got to do a little video and some photos with my cool large check. That was very exciting.

Justin found a 1997 Toyota in great condition for sale for $3,000. We now have a new clunker to call our own. Her name is “Car-lita.” She is tan and will drive around for centuries, until one of us crashes her. Amelia and I were gone for 4 hours thrift shopping on Friday, that was a lot of fun. Since JoAnn’s is going out of business I wanted to stop there, 60 other shoppers had the same idea. I picked up various spools of trim to use on MCO costumes. We’ve got serious spring fever right now with lovely temps in the 60s and our garden bulbs starting to bloom. The dogs got groomed Saturday evening. It is not a chore for the faint of heart. Dog hair floated everywhere. The doggos look very dapper. The grooming shears left zebra stripes on Maisie’s side, she now has some street cred. You know like the lightening bolt patterns shaved onto a boy’s haircut. She is ready to have her puppies any day now. I get to take her “bumperture” twice a day. The word on Google is that her temperature will drop about 12 hours before her puppies come. Yay.
