Red Carpet Week

I love dress up days at school! It’s fun to have a reason to be silly. The reason to celebrate this week? State testing starts next week. The best day was dress up as your favorite book characters. Josie and I went as Caroline and Laura Ingalls from Little House on the Prairie. I had students ask if I was a hooker, waitress, baby, old grandma, and several other things I cannot recall. Thursday several paras dressed up as paparazzi. The theme was “Hollywood Star,” but we don’t like anything about stars in Hollywood. After 20 minutes of brainstorming we decided paparazzi was easy and fun. I had a blast with my fake camera running around the school taking photos. Another teacher dressed up as the red carpet, hilarious.

I found a rescue charity for Scottish terriers last week. We decided as a family to find a new home for Fergus. I spoke with the intake lady during Josie’s fiddle practice session, lots of tears that night. I just made a decision because no one was wanting to decide. Fergus has bitten everyone in our family and has some strange fixations (rocks, snow, hose water, etc). Both puppies ended up with bloody ears, paws, legs, bellies, etc from Fergus’ domination. It breaks our heart but for his own good we need to change up the situation. The Boise rescue contact texted me this morning asking if Fergus could go meet a possible family. She came and picked him up right after church, an hour later the family asked if he could stay for a couple days to see how he settles with their current dog. Phillip was very distraught Monday night after the intake lady called. He prayed about the situation later and felt a strong need to have a talk with Austin about it. I was happy to set up a Telehealth appointment for him the next day. He is back to his normal self even when we talk about Fergus. I love that he has a good connection with Austin.

An era ended: the ducky spoon broke. The ducky spoon started out at James and Miekka’s home. Whenever we visited the girls vied for usage of the ducky spoon. After John and Courtenay moved to Texas Miekka gave the coveted spoon to Josie. A few tears were shed as she begged me to glue it back together, no can do!

Saturday was a busy day for everyone. Justin and the boys drove to Garden City for a fun class on soldering at the Reuseum. I hear it was very instructive and fun for all. The girls and I went to the church for a Primary Easter egg hunt and doughnuts. The hardest part was waiting for the call to collect eggs. It was all over in about 5 minutes! The kids emptied the plastic eggs to be given back to Sister Young for next year. Sister Overall contacted me a couple weeks ago about her cousin’s nephew needing some wedding photos. I finally got the groom’s phone number Friday evening, he texted but never called. I showed up at the address completely in the dark about what their needs or expectations were, also dressed in floral leggings and a bunny shirt because “Easter.” The address was for a church building, everyone was dressed up fancy for the wedding. I just popped in and started helping the Bride’s mother set up a wedding backdrop in the RS room. I insisted on photos after much to everyone’s chagrin. Strangest situation ever! We had a girl’s lunch date at Chik-fil-a and then some shopping at TJ Maxx. Josie told some kids in the play place that her name was supper and Evelyn’s name was lunch. They crack me up. I found decent luggage options at TJ Maxx for Amelia’s mission. The larger piece of luggage is large enough to fit both girls inside! Fun times all around.

Our ward had our Easter sacrament meeting today. Sister Minor was gone so I was the chosen pianist for the ward choir. I practiced my fingers raw hoping to get the harder piece of music decent. I was pleased the any mistakes were minor and unnoticeable. We sang the harder piece for prelude. I jumped over to the organ for sacrament music, the meeting was supposed to start right then but no one got up to start it. I started some prelude music but the organ settings did not sound amazing. That felt like a circus getting the music sounding decent with everyone watching. Good thing I have no more shame left, go on watching the circus people! Evelyn and Brian sang solo parts for the second musical number. It’s no easy thing to sing in front of a crowd. We are lucky to celebrate Palm Sunday and this glorious Easter week. I cannot wait for General Conference and a solemn assembly for our new prophet on Easter Sunday.
