Back to School 2026-2027

Whelp! School’s in session once again. Phillip drove Carlita with Everett and Evelyn in tow. They all had some crazy schedule kinks to iron out, like Evelyn signed up for PE instead of band and Everett in welding at another high school with no choir. Their schedules are all worked out and mostly satisfactory. Evelyn has to do beginning choir again instead of advanced choir because it conflicted with band. She is ok with that because Mrs Sene is coming from CHS to help out with the EVMS choirs this year!

As soon as my feet hit the crosswalk August 10th, my entire summer evaporated. It never happened. Time wrinkled and erased the summer in milliseconds. That was a strange feeling. Heidi and I decided it would be fun to have bubbles for the first day of school at the crosswalk. Most of the students quite enjoyed the wall of bubbles! The first week all my classes focused on reviewing the rules, procedures, and a new slideshow about Mrs Call entitled: The Mythical Snake Yeeter. It’s amazing. The first two days we had some open time with kindergarten’s delayed start, I had just enough time to get my new bulletin board finished.

We have a decision to make about music lessons with the Becks, Rachel is leaving to BYUI in September and Andrew might be too busy for lessons. We could stay and try lessons that might be sporadic and fit in with both our schedules OR find a new teacher. Evelyn really wants to stay with Andrew, doesn’t want to try a new teacher. Josie is torn between going the fiddle route or classical. She would learn more about music theory in a traditional method with a Suzuki teacher, free form with a fiddle group. Evelyn could also switch and take voice lessons with RaShel Ferrin, she is not sure what to do except continue with Andrew. The girls were exhausted at strings lessons Tuesday evening after two full days back in school.

Can you imagine having 31-32 first graders in one class? Neither could I until this week. There are 3 first grade teachers with over 30 kids per class. We have first grade at the last rotation of the day. They are done, we are done, the line of children seems to last for-ev-ver. Apparently, Mr Obert can’t hire another teacher until after 3-4 weeks of established need and deprivation. Stupid rule. One Kinder teacher has the worst class I’ve ever experienced. Each student was running around like a monkey. The teacher also refuses to wear a bra, I was excited when one of her students asked why her boobs touched her belly button…seriously I want to know. She told him to mind his own business. Dang it. I was curious.

It’s sooooooo nice that Phillip can drive himself to band practices. Everett decided to try out for The Hound of the Baskervilles. He worked on a 1-2 minute skit based on Jack and Jill and a sketch from Ratatouille as his audition script. He said it was nerve-wracking to audition, he can’t wait for the results to post next week.

Thursday evening CHS hosted CatBlast where the sports, arts, and clubs can fund raise and sign up new students to join. The marching band performed the first movement and some pep music! For only 10 days of practicing they sounded fantastic, music memorized and all. Phillip can pulse and play at the same time! That was a skills he couldn’t do his 9th grade year. Sara made some money for orchestra with a puppy snuggle experience for $5 per 10 minutes. That is genius! Mrs Sene is teaching 3 out 4 Call kids this school year, yah baby! I earned two hours of working on my Monet Lego after Cat Blast ended the first week of school. I only have the last 1/3 to decorate before Monet will hang on the wall. It’s glorious.

Our sweet neighbor Paula got married to Lee Hook Saturday afternoon. I volunteered to take a couple professional wedding photos of their families for the special occasion. They met in the temple, went to the same sessions for months before starting a friendship. Paula was literally sparkling!

Our new chore rotation chart has many errors. We tried it out Saturday morning and ditched it for just cleaning up the house. Evelyn was not on-board with the chore chart, she refused to clean saying she never voted and approved it. It took some convincing but she eventually cleaned the upstairs and downstairs bathrooms. One day…one day cleaning won’t be so traumatic.
