Flurry of...dog hair
It happens, Moms forget things, things like scheduling dental cleanings for the family. Time rushed by so quickly I didn’t realize that a year passed since our last dental cleanings. Normally I get everyone scheduled before the last cleaning. Ball drop. Gratefully, everyone passed without any new cavities popping up. Phew. I had the dentist pop out Josie’s baby tooth she won’t let anyone touch. He gave me a tip to use oragel to numb the area before helping her next teeth to come out. Her tooth was sticking straight out and wedged against her adult tooth. Evelyn had a similar issue except her tooth was wedged underneath her adult tooth, exact same tooth as Josie. The dentist had to numb her gums to get that bad boy out, it was apparently really wedged in there. Thursday Amelia met with another dental office about her wisdom teeth, she has 1-2 that are coming in. We will probably get those removed during winter break. Everett was the last one to get his teeth cleaned after work on Thursday.
Phillip finished his corn topping job, marching band camp starts on the 28th. He was very excited to learn that taxes will not be taken out of his pay because the kids are paid with a contracted amount the farmer set. Everett will end up making about twice as much as Phillip. Ethan told the crew that each person walked more than a marathon’s worth of distance and together the group walked the entire Oregon trail distance wise. Phew! That’s a lot of work. Everett mentioned craving burritos after work each day for a week. I took them to get burritos for a “little snack.”
It was past due time to give the puppies a grooming session, both pups were shaggy to the max. We set up the table outside and got busy shaving dog hair. Grooming Fergus is a challenge…grooming puppies was an obstacle course. Amelia and I shaved hair off one puppy for a moment, switched pups, shaved, and so on. We were covered in dog hair. It was everywhere. Wally was not cooperating, he got the hammock treatment. I noticed he would try to nip, whine, then settle down, so when I started a new area I’d wait out his tantrum until he gave up. The puppies look cute and ridiculous with their lopsided puppy cuts. Eve has quite a scar from when Fergus nipped her nose a few weeks back. I couldn’t imagine being a monk and wearing a hairy shirt…on purpose! The itchiness was driving me insane.
The girl’s room is finished. The “easy to install” ceiling track was NOT easy to install. First off, the drywall anchors were very flimsy. Secondly, to get the anchors installed the drill hole had to be just slightly larger than the anchors, once the screws went in the anchors disappeared into the ceiling. It was very frustrating. The contraption is up but not at all sturdy. I spent an afternoon cutting and sewing curtains for their window and their beds. The girls are quite pleased with their room…it’s DONE.
Justin and I went out on a HOT date to Texas Roadhouse and to watch Superman. Justin was craving a juicy steak. After I saw him wearing his headlamp while working for no apparent reason earlier in the day, it was a no brainer to let my hunky nerd take me out for a steak. He cracks me up. The new Superman movie was actually quite good. I was expecting another remake, instead the movie was completely new content to me. It started at the height of conflict between Lex Luthor and Superman.
Amelia volunteered at the Boise Ironman event starting at 7 am near Ann Morrison Park. Her muscles are sore from lunging power gel to various athletes as they ran by. She was impressed one lady had on full makeup and didn’t even break a sweat! Amelia is very please to announce she has a job now at Del Taco. She starts sometime next week. Hooray for mediocre jobs.
We reached the peak of boredom this week. The girls were moping around like life was ending. That determined it…it was time for an adventure. Another family in our neighborhood is always going on adventures. Last week she posted some cool photos of a waterfall area in Eagle Island State Park. The site was not easy to access we parked about a mile away only to walk back to the entrance. Justin rolled his ankle, popped it to be precise. He was not doing well. He hobbled back to the van while the rest of us went on to find the waterfall. We found it and enjoyed an hour slipping on rocks, finding water snakes, and soaking in frigid water. Phillip brought his famous blue rope, which he tied his jandals to. His rope and jandal contraption became quite the attraction! Josie fished with his jandals. It was very fun. Everett made a rock wall to flush running water into a rather stagnant pool of water. He had quite a current running through the pool before we had to leave. Justin’s ankle looks like a tankle now. That totally sucks.
Today in church the RS lesson really made us think. The lesson was on D. Todd’s talk “Worship.” How do you worship? We discussed in length what sign do we want to give God on the sabbath. The scriptural statement that really hit me was from Daniel 3: 17-18: BUT IF NOT…we will NOT serve thy gods. I thought of Joseph tarred and feathered, he had an excellent reason to stay in bed on the Sabbath. Alas no…but if not. He stood and testified in spite of his condition.
